Zeiss is dedicated to vision research. As a result, they have been pioneers in the advancement in optical and vision care technology since their founding in the late 1800’s. Driven by physicist and professor Dr. Ernst Abbe, Zeiss revolutionized every aspect the field of optics, from microscopes, telescopes, photography lenses and of course, optical lenses. Prior to Dr. Abbe’s revolutionary work, lenses were made literally by guesswork. Experienced grinders fabricated lenses by feel and they were fitted by trial and error. Abbe’s work in physics and mathematics created the standards for lens manufacture that are still used more than a century later. Dr. Abbe’s work proliferates optics to this day. The term “Abbe Value” is the standard of measurement of a particular material’s ability to refract light, the basic function of all lenses. Zeiss continues this work today. With the modern Zeiss lenses we will fit to your frame, you can be assured of having the widest, clearest field of distortion-free view in the industry. The anti reflective and scratch protective coatings are the industry standard. They provide truly innovative dust, smudge and water shedding properties as well. And most importantly, Zeiss is the only lens that provides 100% UV protection in a clear lens. UVA in the 320 to 400nm range is a leading cause of retina damage and macular degeneration. These are two leading causes of vision loss. Zeiss offers full protection in a clear lens to the full 400nm range point and is the only company to do so in vision care. Corporate responsibility is at the core of Zeiss. Zeiss Vision, as with all the Zeiss divisions within the family, are owned by the Carl Zeiss Foundation. This foundation is the oldest private science funding institution in Germany. 100% of their revenues go towards supporting the advancement of sciences and technologies and education relative to those fields. All things being equal, we believe we’d rather do business with a company that exists solely to further the advancement of vision care and related industries than one that exists to return revenue to shareholders.
